What's included in a house cleaning? Standard vs deep clean vs add-ons

"House cleaning" can mean very different things from one company to the next. Here's how to read the checklist, and what ours covers on every visit.

In short: a standard clean maintains the rooms you use every day. A deep clean resets the whole house and clears buildup. Add-ons cover jobs like inside the fridge and oven, or laundry, that aren't part of a regular visit.

Standard cleaning: the everyday reset

A standard or recurring clean is built to keep a home that's already in good shape feeling clean. It focuses on the rooms and surfaces that get used every day. At Back to Clean, every regular visit includes:

Deep clean: the top-to-bottom reset

A deep clean goes further than a regular visit. It takes on buildup that collects over time: grease on the stovetop and backsplash, soap scum and hard water on the shower and fixtures, and dust along baseboards, door frames and switches. Most companies require one before regular service starts.

With us, your first visit is a top-to-bottom deep clean for a flat $99. More in our guide to what happens during a first deep clean.

Add-ons: the extras

Some jobs take real time and aren't needed every visit, so most companies price them separately. Ours are simple:

What to check on any company's list

Why the checklist matters more than the price

Two companies can charge the same and deliver very different visits. One might skip baseboards, leave beds unmade or charge extra for supplies. Before you compare prices, compare checklists line by line. The cheaper quote isn't cheaper if half the work is an add-on.

It also helps to know which list you're reading. A company's deep clean list is not its regular visit list, and an add-on menu is not what you get every time. Ask which tasks happen on every visit, which only happen on the first one, and which cost extra.

Common questions

Does a regular cleaning include inside the fridge?

Usually not. At Back to Clean, inside the fridge, oven and cabinets is our Extra Detail add-on for $20 a visit.

Do house cleaners make beds?

Many do. Every Back to Clean visit includes making beds. Help with laundry is our Laundry and Beds add-on.

What's the difference between a standard clean and a deep clean?

A standard clean maintains a home that's already clean. A deep clean resets the whole house and clears buildup, which is why it usually comes first.
